Notable Training: Rebecca studied piano and clarinet at St. Cloud State University, where she received her BS in Music Education. She earned her MA in Music Education from the University of Minnesota.
Additionally, she has earned certification in Handwriting Without Tears™, Pre-K through K-5, as well as undertaken training in Handwriting Analysis.
Professional Opus: Rebecca taught music in the Killeen Independent School District in Texas, as well as in the Osseo Area Schools in Minnesota. Additionally, Rebecca has been a piano accompanist for church services for over 20 years.
She’s been a music instructor in a variety of settings, from individual lessons to classes of 30 students. She has also conducted bands of 20 students to over 250 students in all district band performances.
Rebecca teaches students piano as well as clarinet, instructing students as young as age 4 to read music and play instruments. Rebecca feels her Master’s thesis greatly improved her teaching, as its focus was on music teachers and how they interact with students.
For the Record: “When I was 9 years old, I began piano lessons and got hooked on playing music for myself. At 11 years old, I started the clarinet and got hooked on performing music with friends. It snowballed into a lifelong passion.
“After college, I played the clarinet in community bands and accompanied church services on the piano. I also directed elementary music groups at church and in the community.
“I engage my students where they are at and with music they enjoy, while exposing them to music of new cultures and styles.
“Some of my favorite musicians include a Minnesota composer, Libby Larsen, who composed for the SCSU symphonic band as an artist in residence. I also enjoy the work of jazz clarinetist, Anat Cohen, and Minnesota jazz pianist, Laura Caviani.
“I play and enjoy teaching jazz, classical, popular, and folk music, and am inspired by my students and the joy of music.”
