For the Record: “I started playing drums when I was 12 and pretty much knew that’s what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

“As an instructor, I try to focus on what a student wants to learn. There’s so much to absorb when it comes to any musical instrument that you can’t possibly learn it all. Because there are many different paths a student can take, I encourage all my students to find what most inspires them.

“I genuinely try to enjoy all styles of music. I have been in a quite a few different bands that have played everything from post punk and math metal to neo soul, hip hop, rock, jazz, fusion and electronic.

“Musicians who have impacted my career include Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Mike Patton, Nils Frykdahl, David Yow, Allan Holdsworth, and MF Doom.

“I find I’m inspired by musicians who work hard and don’t try to follow the clichés of any specific genre. The musicians I like the most don’t sound like anyone else.”
