Now Playing: Uncover the Mystery at A Kopp’s Piano Exploratorium

If you’ve ever wondered how on earth pressing a single piano key can result in such a beautiful, resounding sound, you’ll want to attend A Kopp’s Piano Exploratorium on September 19, 2026 at the Golden Valley Days celebration.
Visitors will learn how full piano actions work when they explore our two piano “cadavers” (a mysterious name, in and of itself.) Plus, two single model piano actions will allow people to see all the individual parts of a piano more clearly.
Finally, you’ll want to be sure to stop by our booth to view our massive Lego Grand Piano. Our community of students, parents, and friends will be working away all summer …
New President at Twin Cities Piano Technician’s Guild is A Kopp’s Own

A Kopp Music is proud to announce that our very own Andrew Kopp was elected local Twin Cities chapter president of the Piano Technicians’ Guild (PTG) this past May.
A Kopp Music’s piano technician department has been steadily growing for the past three years and we are excited that Andy is stepping into this role to serve the local Twin Cities’ PTG chapter.
One of the most significant functions of the PTG is to provide continuing education opportunities for guild members. Advancing member education makes serving in PTG leadership a natural fit.
A New Movement: Upcoming Hiring Opportunities

In light of Andy’s appointment as PTG Chapter President, we are looking for ways to streamline his schedule. As such, A Kopp is looking to potentially hire and train one more professional instructor as we look ahead to the 2026-2027 school year. A piano instructor is a must as this is the largest demand at our studio. Ideally, a new instructor will teach piano in addition to a woodwind, preferably saxophone, though others will be considered. Prior private teaching experience is not required. A Kopp Music is willing to train the right applicant.

A New Note in Our Composition: Welcoming Rebecca Kopp to the Teaching Team

We are very excited to announce that Rebecca Kopp will rejoin the A Kopp Music team beginning June 1.
We’ve had a lengthy wait list for students and lessons the majority of this past school year. As of the last school year, we ended the season with 100 students. At that time we were not yet ready to bring on another team member, but this winter, with an ever-growing wait list, it was obvious that it was time.
Rebecca is Andy’s sister, and we worked with her before the pandemic. Sadly, in the Spring of 2022, we made the difficult decision to let go of all of our instructors because we were struggling to find an in-person location similar to what we had before COVID-19 flipped our world upside-down.
Andy Completed Advanced Training on a High Note

We’re pleased to share the news that Andy recently completed an intensive three-day seminar called Vertical Action Regulation offered by the Piano Technician’s Guild. The seminar covered all phases required for regulation of vertical pianos and was limited to just six participants. Andy successfully passed his skills tests at the end of the session.
“Proper regulation is crucial to allowing a piano to perform the way it should.” said David Stoneman, RPT, President of the PTG. “Too often, training opportunities for technicians who service vertical pianos are limited. Classes like this ensure that technicians can offer the highest level of piano service to all clients and their instruments.”

Passing the Baton: Meet Our Studio Intern

For the very first time in the studio’s history, A Kopp welcomed an intern into our fold this past May.
Trevor C., a junior from Breck High School, served about 50 hours over the course of two weeks at our studio. Internships are an opportunity Breck offers to upperclassmen during the last two weeks of the school year. At the conclusion of his internship, Trevor was required to give a presentation to his advisor.
As an education-based organization, we were enthusiastic about creating an internship program that would prove valuable for students who are serious about pursuing a career in music performance and/or music education.
A Kopp Chart Toppers

At this year’s Annual Spring Recital, we were pleased to recognize the achievements of two very fine musicians.
The first award recipient, flautist Berlin H., was the recipient of our “Reaching for the Brass Ring Award.” This particular award is given to select students who have not only excelled in lessons but have also decided they are going to continue onward in the field of performing arts.
The second recipient, flautist Llsa N., was the recipient of our Caitlin Glennon Award for Musical Awesomeness (CGAFMA). This award recognizes a student who displays not only dedication to lessons and playing, but also demonstrates a unique initiative in seeking out opportunities to perform. Scaling Up Skills: Andrew Kopp’s Latest Honor

Andrew Kopp of Golden Valley, Minnesota, recently completed an intensive three-day seminar conducted by the Piano Technicians Guild. “Grand Action Regulation in 37 Steps” covered all phases of grand piano regulation. Following the seminar, Andrew passed a final regulation skills test.
