The Caitlin Glennon Award for Musical Awesomeness is an award for select graduating high school seniors. In order to be selected for this award a student must be nominated by their A Kopp Music private instructor. This award is presented at the annual Spring Piano Recital.
A Little Background:
Once upon a time we used to invite our wind students to perform in the recitals along side the piano students. In 2008 we discontinued this due to the amount of accompanying required for our growing student load. As much as we miss having our wind students perform, we recognize that band students get many opportunities to perform throughout the school year. However, in 2013 we did have one special senior perform, closing out the final recital of the day.
Looking ahead, we would love to invite up to one dedicated senior per recital to close out each performance. Therefore, we are starting up a special award for those wind students that earn these special invitations. Those students will be recipients of the Caitlin Glennon Award for Musical Awesomeness!
The student that this award is named after showed not only dedication to lessons and playing, but also demonstrated a unique initiative in seeking out opportunities to perform. Prior to graduation, she not only was in her high school’s top band, but also had auditioned for and was selected to participate in eight honors bands throughout the state of Minnesota. Additionally, she was recognized for academic excellence. It was a privilege to be her instructor for eight years.
