The Heart & History of A Kopp Music
Andrew and Alicia Kopp have over 60 years of combined teaching experience in piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, music theory, composition, and jazz improvisation. In addition to teaching, both are accomplished musicians.
It was with a vision of honoring the legacy of Jim Harms’ My Music Store that Andrew and Alicia welcomed their first students to A Kopp Music — Lessons & Studios in 2017.
Their mission was simple — to provide a place where every student could gain a life-long love of music.
To achieve this, Alicia and Andrew created an environment unlike any other, where a spirit of collaboration existed between students and instructors, making the learning experience positive, memorable, and fun.
When COVID-19 emerged in March of 2020, Andrew and Alicia didn’t miss a beat, successfully pivoting to online learning overnight. What was initially thought to be a temporary shift has now become the new normal. In two years, the Kopps have honed and polished best practices for online learning, which allows students to progress at the same pace as they would have done in person.
The arrival of 2022 brought about a new set of challenges. Andy and Alicia decided to make another shift, this time to a more simplified business model which allows them to embrace a complete virtual future for A Kopp Music.
Says Alicia, “Today we know that we can deliver high-quality lessons while building genuine and meaningful relationships with our students in an online platform that is safe, convenient, and consistent no matter what the world throws at us next.”

Reaching for The Brass Ring
When one is reaching for the brass ring, they are taking a chance and striving to be the best in their field. One who does this puts themselves out there time and time again showing dedication, persistence, and drive. This rather elite honor is dedicated to those that are dreaming big and working hard to make those dreams come true.
