Hitting All the Right Notes

We held this year’s spring recital on Sunday, March 2nd, featuring performances by 60 talented students spread throughout the day. The result was six hourly recitals!
Our musicians ranged from 4-year-old preschoolers to a couple of graduating high school seniors. A few of the students had only just started lessons after the holidays, making this their first recital experience.
While most of the performers were piano students we were also treated to two flute solos, flute duet, flute trio composed of local high school juniors, and a saxophone solo by Isabele M., this year’s recipient of the Caitlin Glennon Award for Musical Awesomeness (CGAFMA).
From Sheet Music to Showtime
We very purposely keep our recitals intimate and short. This season, the run time was anywhere between 12 to 20 minutes depending on how many students were in each recital, as well as how many were playing more advanced music. (More advanced pieces can oftentimes make the performance longer because of their complexity.)
Scheduling our recitals is a process in itself making the end result just as big of a surprise for us as it is for the students! What makes it special is that each hour has its own character and flavor spotlighting a sampling of our overall roster as part of every experience.
This year, for the first time since 2018, we did not record or live stream the Spring Recital. Instead, we chose to reserve a seat for a performer’s family member to have an unobstructed view to capture their own photos or videos. This was quite successful and helped those students who might have had a few butterflies because they didn’t have to come to the front alone.
Flutes, Flowers and Fun
As you can see from the photos, we enjoyed dressing up the performance space to really show our musicians how special this event is for everyone. Fresh flowers and twinkling lights added a festive touch while snacks and refreshments for musicians and their guests were an added treat.

From First Notes to Final Bows
We would like to say big CONGRATULATIONS to all of this year’s participants for a job well done! Thanks to each of you for sharing your musical skills with everyone in the room. We applaud your performances and your courage — it takes a lot of guts to get up there.
Also we want to extend a very special congratulations to our graduating seniors and this year’s CGAFMA recipient. Our time with these students is now starting to draw to a close. We feel we’ve been so lucky to have spent so many years with these amazing young adults and we’re excited to learn what the future has in store for them.
Lastly, thank you to the families, including our own, for all the support you have given to your students and to us. Another year is in the books! Huzzah!
